Local officials, organizations and property owners along the entry to Jefferson on E. Lincoln Way were invited to an open house April 26 to see preliminary plans for enhancements to the entry.
The plans include a trail for walkers and bicyclists on thee south side of the street from the Milwaukee depot to the cemetery, shrubs and flowers, benches, lighting and more. Driveways to businesses on the north side of the road would be better defined and more grassy areas would be planted.
Bolton & Menk is doing the planning study at a cost of $24,500 to the city of Jefferson. According to Josh Shields, landscape architect at Bolton & Menk’s Ames office, the plans will be refined one more time. Planning level costs will be determined and included in a vision plan. The plan will include an overview of what grant funds may be available to implement such a project.
The plan will suggest phasing possibilities to spread out the cost of any future enhancements.
The Jefferson city council at this time has not committed funds beyond the cost of the study.
